Educational Track: Social Equity in the Workplace + Supply Chains

Over one million children in the US have lead levels in their blood that impact brain cognition and development (1). Lead-based paint and other toxics in building materials are significant contributing factors. This session will explore the issue of healthy materials in affordable housing, which faces unique challenges, including demands for long term durability, limited project budgets and fast construction schedules. The Materials Petal, within the Living Building Challenge, offers a comprehensive framework for eliminating environmental toxins and protecting the health of low-income and underrepresented populations. This session will give participants actionable skills and knowledge to incorporate material health into their next affordable housing project. It's time to put people first.
