We are excited to be partnering with Pittsburgh's Green Building Alliance, our local tour host, for our upcoming Living Product Expo. This is one of many tours made available to both locals and out-of-town conference attendees.

Our tour of Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens offers an inside look at one of the greenest buildings in the world. Phipps has long been a leader in green buildings and sustainability, and most recently its Center for Sustainable Landscapes achieved Living Building Challenge and LEED Platinum certifications, and is the first and only building to achieve Four Stars Sustainable SITES Initiative for landscapes (pilot), and the WELL Building Platinum (pilot) certification.

Participants of this tour (offered in both the morning and afternoon) will get an exclusive behind-the-scenes tour of the Center for Sustainable Landscapes, offering an up close and personal reflection of all that was involved in becoming one of the greenest buildings in the world. Next, tour participants will have free time to explore all that Phipps has to offer, including the stunning Summer Flower Show and Butterfly Forest.

This tour also includes a box lunch. REGISTER HERE. Registration cost is $35.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND

Whether you are a Pittsburgh resident or an out-of-towner attending the Living Product Expo, this tour offers an intriguing look at what it takes to achieve the Living Building Challenge. It’s particularly great for architects, engineers, designers, landscape architects, nature enthusiasts, educators and professionals interested in learning about the Living Building Challenge process.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

  1. Gain insight into the process of achieving the Living Building Challenge certification.
  2. Learn about the Sustainable SITES Initiative and the WELL Building certification.
  3. Discover how the mission of a conservatory and botanical garden uniquely tie in to healthy and high-performing buildings.
  4. Understand how trailblazers like Phipps might approach specific challenges presented by being the “first” to try something.
