We are excited to be partnering with Pittsburgh's Green Building Alliance, our local tour host, for our upcoming Living Product Expo. This is one of many tours made available to both locals and out-of-town conference attendees.

Join us for a biking tour of green buildings in Pittsburgh’s historic Southside. After riding though Point State Park to see “the Point” where the Allegheny and Monongahela Rivers converge to form the Ohio River, we will pedal over to visit Green Building Alliance’s own LEED-CI Platinum office space to see how new construction can be incorporated into an historic industrial space.

The next stop on the bike trail will be Schwartz Living Market which has been registered as a Living Building Challenge project since 2010 and is a prototype of a Materials Petal Recognition Project. Tour participants will also enjoy a short film by Mark Dixon about the development of the project and enjoy an organic juice from one of the tenants in the Market.

Our final stop on the trail will be Conservation Consultants, Inc. (CCI). CCI’s mission is helping local residents through education to identify energy efficiency improvements they can make to reduce the cost of their utility bills and live in a safer, healthier, and comfortable home. After our site visits we will ride along the riverside trails and have a box lunch along the river.

This tour includes a boxed lunch. REGISTER HERE. Registration cost is $35.

Whether you are a Pittsburgh resident or an out-of-towner attending the ILFI Living Product Expo, this tour offers an intriguing look at what it takes to achieve the Living Building Challenge. It’s particularly great for architects, engineers, designers, landscape architects, nature enthusiasts, educators and professionals interested in learning about the LEED and Living Building Challenge process.

  • Gain insight into a variety of healthy and high-performing building types and understand methods for accomplishing them.
  • Discover some of the ways in which Pittsburgh has re-invented itself through sustainable design and healthy building construction.
  • Understand how a Living Building Challenge project can begin as a petal recognition project and then become a full-scale Living Building Challenge project when all petals are completed.
  • See the application of LEED and LBC in different historic buildings, including the challenges and opportunities faced in this type of project.

**Please note: All the Living Product Expo Tours will pick-up and drop-off from the David L. Lawrence Convention Center.
