We are excited to be partnering with Pittsburgh's Green Building Alliance, our local tour host, for our upcoming Living Product Expo. This is one of many tours made available to both locals and out-of-town conference attendees.
Nestled on the edge of Pittsburgh’s verdant Frick Park, participants of this tour will visit the construction site of the latest building in Pittsburgh to pursue the Living Building Challenge: the Frick Environmental Center. The Pittsburgh Parks Conservancy, in partnership with the City of Pittsburgh, has begun the first phase of construction and they will be our tour guides for this project.
The Frick Environmental Center will be a cutting-edge, environmentally sensitive building that will act as a living laboratory, providing children from all parts of the city with access to hands-on, experiential environmental education. The new Center will complement and restore the ecological and historical landscape of the park while enhancing visitor experience and understanding. Designed to meet the Living Building Challenge and LEED Platinum standards for energy efficiency, the new Environmental Center will support its own needs for water and energy.
In addition to the construction site, we will have some extra time to walk through beautiful Frick Park and learn more about this 644 acre urban oasis and the ongoing storm water management projects taking place throughout the park.
A box lunch picnic will be included on the tour. REGISTER HERE. Registration cost is $35.
Whether you are a Pittsburgh resident or an out-of-towner attending the Living Product Expo, this tour offers an intriguing look at what it takes to achieve the Living Building Challenge. It’s particularly great for architects, engineers, designers, landscape architects, nature enthusiasts, educators and professionals interested in learning about the Living Building Challenge process.
